Moni Koudouma Beach

At the foot of Kofina, the highest peak of the Asterousia, in the middle of the wildly beautiful pine forest, is the Koudouma monastery, which is one of the oldest monasteries in southern Crete and its foundation is placed around 1280.

The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin and on August 15, solemn celebrations take place, with a large number of people. The sanctuary of the temple is located inside a small cave, creating a primeval overwhelming atmosphere. In front of the monastery, there is a spotless beach, with rocky caves. A special mention should also be made for a cavernous temple, with rich stalactite decoration, located to the west of the monastery and called Avvakospilio.
